About P3M

The role of information and knowledge in supporting investment decisions becomes increasingly significant in a globalized world. In the mining sector, especially in mineral exploration, companies and investors need integrated information to support their strategic plans for discovering and exploiting mineral deposits. In turn, government entities need adequate information elements to monitor the competitiveness of mineral exploration and production, with a view to promoting the attraction of essential investments for inducing regional development.

Objectives and Guidelines

With the purpose of contributing to improving the attractiveness of investments and the sustainable and competitive development of Brazilian mining - P3M aims to integrate, systematize and disseminate information, knowledge and learning to support studies and research oriented towards the implementation of policies public policies and strategic plans for exploration and mineral production.

P3M's collection of data and information covers geoscientific, technical-economic, regulatory, socio-economic and socio-environmental aspects related to the chain of mineral industry activities, including mineral exploration, mining development, mining (mining and processing) and mineral transformation. P3M has been guided by the following guidelines:

  • Focus on concepts and tools for analysis and decision making in economic geology and mineral economics.
  • Integration and harmonization of concepts and nomenclatures with other SGM systems, as well as ANM and SGM.
  • Development and implementation in progressive stages, in accordance with the level of complexity of the Information Plans.
  • Easy access on the same site (“one stop shopping”), becoming an information and knowledge hub, based on a Geospatialized Strategic Intelligence System.

Presentations

Ongoing Activities

P3M has been conducted through the following work stages:

  • Institutional Articulation: In contacts and meetings with entities, the conception and structure of P3M are presented, and the understandings for the integration of the databases are defined. Of particular note is the Technical Cooperation Agreement with ANM and SGM and the Memorandum of Understanding with ABPM, ADIMB, AMIG, ANEPAC, CETEM, IBGE and IBRAM.
  • Prototyping: the databases have been structured using prototypes to test the best ways of integrating and making information available. Successive prototypes and demonstrations have been presented at industry events.
  • Development: comprises the characterization of typical user demands; evaluating data sources for integrity, adequacy and formatting; preparing the viewer - means of access and communication for users; and the availability of the P3M for selected users, aiming at critical evaluation and collection of subsidies. The diagrams below characterize the integration of the different databases, the specifically designed information plans, as well as the ease of access and use of P3M.

  • Exploration and Mineral Production Database: P3M will offer access to a database of research and mineral production projects, containing the characterization of geoeconomic and economic-mineral aspects of undertakings in the country and abroad. Its main purpose is to facilitate the obtaining of reference information that can be used as estimators for certain essential parameters, in studies of economic geology and preliminary economic evaluation of mineral deposits.
  • Analytical Studies: In addition to disseminating information and knowledge, P3M's collection will be used to carry out studies to support the preparation of strategic investment plans, as well as public policies for mining-industrial development, whether at national, sectoral or regional level.

The following diagram summarizes the work steps currently being carried out in the P3M implementation process.

Release

At Simexmin 2022, SBG presented the first release of the P3M Platform, which is now being implemented, in cooperation with SGM and ANM, in addition to other representative entities. Based on a specific Master Plan, prepared by a team of specialists from the SGB, the first two stages made available to users characterize the dynamic and analytical character of P3M, as well as the pattern adopted for integrating different information bases and processing systems.
